2023 marked an important landmark in our club's history, as we celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the formation of Clann na hOman.
We're proud to reflect on the work of key members who helped shape our GAA club as it has evolved over the past two decades and beyond.

The idea of a GAA club being established in Oman first came to light at the turn of the new millennium.
As the story goes, a invite was sent out for a meeting and a kick-around at the Al Sawadi Beach Resort, located between the port city of Sohar and the capital, Muscat.
Prior to the club being officially formed, the 'Gaels' of Oman would have to travel across the border to the UAE to play GAA competitively.
As Clann na hOman began to establish itself, one notable early achievement came during our tournament debut at the Bahrain Games, where our men'spicked up the 'New Club' trophy.
Alongside Colin Butler, Terri Johar helped to organise that inaugural meeting in Al Sawadi which established Clann na hOman. She was also the founder of what would become the Oman Irish Society.
Terri was an inspirational figurehead who helped to support our club during those early years through her many fundraisers. She proudly served as president of Clann na hOman until her sad passing in 2010.
Her service to our GAA club, Irish expatriates and local charities in Muscat will forever be remembered. We are proud to continue her legacy through the Terri Johar Award, presented annually to a club member for their outstanding contribution to both Clann na hOman and the wider community.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
Following in the footsteps of the men's team, our ladies began to compete in tournaments at home and abroad from 2009 onwards.
As female participation in Gaelic Games began to grow rapidly across the region, our ladies team grew likewise and has gone on to achieve Clann na hOman's most significant honours to date.
Out of Clann na hOman grew the Muscat Magpies Australian Rules team, consisting mainly of Irish and Australian expatriates residing in Oman. The team competed across the region against teams from the UAE and Qatar.
For a number of years, our GAA club merged with the AFL team to form the Muscat Gaelic and Australian Football Club (MGAFC), to support the membership of both groups.
Clann na hOman marked its tenth birthday on March 7th, 2013 with a beach day at the Capital Area Yacht Club, Muscat. The celebration was attended by both our adult and juvenile club members.
Although the main focus of Clann na hOman over the past two decades has been Gaelic football, the club has also fielded hurling teams in tournaments across the Arabian Gulf.
Shane Carroll, Shane O'Donnell and Liam McAuliffe have all represented the club as part of the Middle East hurling team, while Kate McDonald also lined out the Middle East camogie team at the GAA All-Stars Exhibition in Abu Dhabi.
With established men's, ladies and juvenile sections, alongside a thriving social scene, our club continues to provide a base at the heart of Muscat to practice the skills of Gaelic Games, make friends and be part of a close-knit community.
Here's to the next twenty years and beyond!
